There is no denying that washing your windows is a pretty tedious chore. That is why you want to make sure you get it right the first time you do it. And so, to avoid having to redo your work of window washing, here are some tips and hints that you can follow.
Window Washing 101
In order to succeed in your job of washing your house windows, keep in mind and make use of the following steps, and we will assure that you would not make any mistakes.
- You have to choose a dry, cloudy day to work. You have to this job in a cloudy day, which is not too hot or too cold weather. It’s because if you washing your windows under the blazing sun, and the cleaner will dry onto the hot windows before you get to wipe it off, leaving hard-to-remove streaks. However, if the weather won’t cooperate, better start on the shady side of your house.
- Remove all the dirt and dust first. You have to sweep dirt from the window frame with a brush or vacuum it up with your machine’s dusting attachment. This will prevent any form of dirt from turning into a muddy mess once mixed with a cleaner. If your window screen looks totally grimy, pop it out first, and wash it with hot water and a soft brush, then rinse and let dry before putting it back.
- Better pick the right cleaner, and use it generously. Don’t hold back on the spray, especially if your windows look very dirty. You need plenty of cleaner in order to dissolve and suspend the dirt, so it can be completely wiped away.
- Use a microfiber cloth. Some of those who wash their windows like to dry their panes with newspaper, but you better prefer to use what is called reusable microfiber cloths. They are super absorbent, washable, and leave the glass shiny and streak-free. If you have to use paper towels for window washing though, make sure they won’t break easily.
- Squeegees may look professional – but if you don’t know how to use them right, skip them. Professional window cleaners use squeegees, but you have to know how to use them right.
- You only need to clean your windows once or twice a year, but it’s easier if you would divide the job up, and do it one room at a time.
